Corset Heaven News
Cutting-edge corsets were among the designs on display at this year's Triumph
International Awards, with a British newcomer taking home the top prize.
Aimed at celebrating the latest innovations and hot new trends in the world of
lingerie, the 2009 ceremony was held at Bermondsey's Fashion and Textile Museum.
Among those judging the entries were fashion critics Savannah Miller and Dolly Jones,
as well as corset fan and burlesque star Immodesty Blaize, who expressed her belief that
such events are crucial to help keep lingerie design moving forward. "I've always got
an eye on the latest in corsetry and lingerie design, and the talent showcase on display
was excellent," she told Vogue. "We can rest assured that women's underwear will stay sexy,
innovative and forward thinking."
James Nolan, a 20-year-old student of Central Saint Martin's college in London, took
home the main award for his design, which was inspired by Odete and Odile.
Victoria Pendleton on the Cover of FHM
Victoria Pendleton appears on the front cover of FHM this month,
as Britain's most popular 'lads' mag' gets to know the Olympic cycling champion.
Victoria has never been shy about striping off, having posed naked for the cover of the
Observer Sport's Monthly before the Bejing Olympics last year. This time around she's shown
looking fabulous in a black sweetheart neckline corset
In the accompanying interview, Pendleton talks about the emotion she went through to win
the sprint world title earlier this year after being made to watch the post race interview
that she cried her way through. "Ugh! How embarrassing," she said.
Talk also turns to her thighs in the interview, and Pendleton admits that she's quite
proud of them. "I know it's not very feminine to have big muscly things, but I work hard
in the gym and they don't wobble."

Corset Confidence
While men may lack a complete comprehension of the benefits of corsetry, fashion-savvy women know
that a well-fitted corset can work wonders. That is according to a newly-published column from a
US-based fashion expert, who explains that the differences between the sexes goes so far as to
influence their views on female grooming and clothing.
As well as adopting different attitudes to push-up bras and make-up, men are also likely to
underestimate the advantages of donning a corset. Indeed, Rebecca Siebert writes in her post for
Examiner.com, he says: "Is it really worth sucking in those extra ten ounces?"
However, she states, from a female point of view: "Those girdles and corsets pushes everything
where it needs to be and shrinks stuff where if refuses to naturally be and where we want it to
go. "A corset forces your shoulders up and forces you to stand straighter giving any woman the
great look of confidence no matter what she feels like on the inside."
SUSAN Boyle has been made over again - but this time by a French artist. The 48-year-old Britain's Got
Talent singer looks sultry in the Picasso-style painting of her by artist Laetitia Guilbaud, who paints
her with stockings and a racy tight-fitting corset. The Scottish virgin, who is currently being treated
in the Priory for exhaustion, is also seen smoking a cigar through her heavily made-up mouth and sitting
next to a vat of champagne.
Artist Laetitia, who lives in Glasgow, said: "For me, even though she is not the most attractive lady
in the world, she has come into the spotlight recently with her beautiful voice and singing talent.
"I felt obliged to paint her in my style and give her a bit of "je ne sais quoi" and make her more sexy
and appealing in a physical way to go with her voice and also wanted to reveal a wild side to her now that
she is a celebrity."
The Lady is GaGa for Corsets
Having recently been snapped in a metallic corset to promote her latest single Lady GaGa has one again shown off
her love of corsets.
Whilst being interviewed for Rolling Stone magazine, the American singer appeared on the front cover wearing nothing
but a Perspex corset and a few carefully placed bubbles.
The magazine has interviewed the star about her successful career, highlighting her triumphs she has experienced thus
far with a headline on the cover which reads 'The Rise of Lady GaGa'.
The FTM'S exciting new exhibition, due to open on June 12th, traces the evolution of underwear from health
garment, shape definer to fashion 'must have'
From the risqué to the radical, pieces include an original Merry Widow corset inspired by Lana Turner in the
film of the same name; renowned burlesque artiste Immodesty Blaize’s corset; a spectacular gown made from bras
and briefs by designers Vin & Omi and a La Perla bra encrusted with Swarovski crystals.
This is one not to be missed!
Body Image and Beyonce
Bootylicious babe Beyonce Knowles has revealed that she feels sexiest when she's at her natural
weight. The 27-year-old singer recently said that she prefers a natural body shape to a sculpted
gym physique.
"To me, it's sexier when it doesn't look like you go to the gym," she told Self magazine.
"I feel best when I'm not really thin and not really heavy - when I'm still curvy. "I think it's
important to feel like a woman, as well as look like a woman."
Beyonce shows off her womanly assets to their full potential in eye-catching fashion corsets
and designer jewellery both on stage and the red carpet. Like most mere mortals, the Halo singer
has a weakness when it comes to sweet treats, revealing that doughnuts and ice-cream are her
downfall when trying to get in shape.
Alesha Dixon vamps it up
WEARING a tight cream corset and bustle and vamping it up with some wet look red leggings,
Alesha Dixon burst on to the Big Weekend's Main Stage with her new hit, So Excited.
But the gig today wasn't just about new material. Alesha gave her thousands
of fans a taste of her hits gone by, with Mis-Teeq's Scandalous and All I Want.
Barbadian singer Rihanna brought New York to a standstill when she stepped out in an eye-popping outfit for a shopping trip
The Umbrella hitmaker flaunted her sexy curves in a satin corset under a pink cardigan and teamed
with a pair of white jeans and pink shades. Now that's hot summer fashion!
Lily Allen returned to the site of her first ever stage performance as she played the final leg of her
trio of My Space Secret Show gigs at Notting Hill's Tabernacle in London
She played most of her set dressed at Queen Victoria, complete with tiara, ruffled shirt
and large victorian skirt and corset.
Corset have us in a lather at the Soap Awards
Stars of the small screen hit the red carpet in all their finery this weekend for the
annual British Soap Awards. Cast members from all the soaps turned out at the London event
dressed to the nines in floor-length gowns, killer heels and show-stopping designer jewellery.
Three TV beauties - Hollyoaks actress Hollie-Jay Bowes, EastEnders' Kara Tointon and Emmerdale's
Jenna Louise Coleman - dazzled in stylish corset dresses, with Hollie-Jay opting for a traditional
black and white corset teamed with a black skirt and platform shoes.
Jenna Louise donned a flattering black corset and monochrome full knee-length skirt, while Kara
chose a gold satin tutu dress.
Scooping seven awards on the night, EastEnders won Best Soap for the second consecutive year.
The soap stars celebrated the occasion with champagne cocktails before partying into the wee
small hours at London's Wellington Club, reports reveal.
CORSETS are the unsung heroes of many a celebrity's closet, pulling them in and pushing
them out in all the right places. They enhance the smallest cleavage and give shape to the
scrawniest stars. And they look even better on curvy cuties.
Rihanna wowed us wearing a sexy studded corset and skin-tight leather trousers at the WMAs.
And she's just one in a line of stars using these magic figure fixers to get noticed.
MEL B is the latest star to ruffle feathers in a burlesque style, posing in sexy Ultimo
shots that could have come straight from the Moulin Rouge. Last month Girls Aloud teased
the Brit Awards audience with huge feathers, waist-cinching corsets and eyelashes longer
than Nadine Coyle’s legs. And singer Katy Perry, Paris Hilton and even Blue Peter
goody-two-shoes Zoe Salmon have all been stepping out in striptease style with va-va-voom outfits.
Instead, they’re embracing their curves, celebrating sauciness and going girlie.
Mel, who makes her debut in a Las Vegas spectacular called Peepshow next month, says:
“Burlesque is all about embracing and celebrating your body. A girl’s gotta have great lingerie,
but it’s also all about the wink and the tease that goes with it!”
It’s girl power all over again and Britain’s women — and fellas — can’t get enough.
Having achieved mainstream status in the US, burlesque’s cheeky take on the striptease is
captivating the UK. Titillating dance classes are springing up from Widnes to Wapping, girls
are donning their glad rags for dinner dances at revue bars and the market for burlesque-themed
hen parties is soaring.
Fashion is following too. Feathers, corsets, lace, big belts and outerwear as
underwear are all big news on the catwalks and the High Street. Skinny is out and the hourglass
figure is back in. Kelly Brook and Kate Winslet — girls who know how to work their curves — are
our new pin-ups.
According to Marie
Claire the fashion elite have been salivating at the thought of Beyonce's
Thierry Mugler designed tour wardrobe and the first pictures are now in.
Taking inspiration from 'the duality of being a woman
and a warrior,' Mugler told WWD, he has created a wardrobe of elaborate
pieces, such as structural sci-fi style one-piece and waist cinching
corsets teamed with leggings and vertiginious ankle boots.
Corsets as Popular
as Ever
Corsets are big in the media right now. Corsets have long since
been a favourite with celebrities who know how to dress to impress.
Both Lady GaGa and the Pussycat Dolls have been pictured out and
about in the last week in their figure enhancing garments.
Anne Hathaway also chose to wear a black corset under a tuxedo
jacket to the premier of her new movie Bride Wars.
Whilst high end fashion brand Dolce & Gabbana
have chosen a corset clad, Monroe styled Scarlett Johansson as
the face for their new make up range. Agent Provocateur meanwhile
are promoting their new range, including corsets with Pixie Geldof.
Nigella Wows in Hot Red Corset Dress
Any doubt that women with curves, breasts and creamy shoulders are not
beautiful, then the sight on Wednesday night of Nigella Lawson, in a dazzling
red corset dress, put paid to it.
With her tiny waist nipped in and her ample bust pushed up by a Vivienne
Westwood scarlet corset dress, Nigella shone with rude health and confidence.
If any woman is thinking, hmm, I really should go on a drastic diet and
exercise regime before I can possibly attend that Christmas party, then look
at Nigella and take heed.
4 fashion capitals, 5 hot looks for spring
CORSETS - While a more relaxed shape dominated, there was a proliferation
of tight corsets, too. It was the yin to the yang, and the va in vavoom.
ONE SHOULDER - Designers offered up the modern goddess as their collective
muse, showing a string of one-shouldered looks.
NUDES - Call it sand, skin or champagne: There was a steady parade of nude
colors on the runways, although the models weren’t necessarily showing a lot of skin.
TROPICAL TINTS - There was a clear tropical influence on the clothes for
spring-summer. If nude is the must-have neutral over standard black and white,
then tangerine orange and hibiscus pink, along with ocean blues, are the infusions
of color instead of pastels.
SHOES - The shoes on the runway this go-round had towering heels, tough-girl
styling and sometimes seemingly unstable architecture.
New York Fashion Week - The Boston Globe (Sept 08)
New York Fashion Week is in full force and corsets are playing a big part.
The appearance of a corset worn over a dress, it is said, was to be expected
of the zany Betsey Jackson, but she wasn't the only designer at Bryant Park
who employed it's restrictive powers. Peter Som, Isaac Mizrahi, Proenza Schouler,
and Herve Leger squeezed models into these body-conscious creations.
A full corset dress may not wind up on the racks at Ann Taylor
but the bold step shows that the body-conscious clothing that arrived for this
fall is sticking around.
